artist bio

Ben Meadow took an interest in record collecting, sampling, beat making and DJing shortly after moving to Seattle, WA in 2001. Hobby turned to passion in 2004 when he became affiliated with the Fourthcity collective and began producing and performing under the name Nominal I. He began DJing professionally in 2006, occasionally appearing as his ultra suave, French, party animal alter ego Claude Balzac. Since 2013 he has been performing exclusively under his given name.

He is a founding member of Trashy Trash DJs, the crew whose monthly parties in Seattle, Portland, OR and Missoula, MT between 2006-2010 were the wildest, most diverse and original in the Northwest dance scene. Currently, they host the hugely successful SNAP! 90s Dance Party at Lo-Fi Performance Gallery. Ben has also held numerous solo residencies in some of Seattle's finest clubs and lounges.

As s student of the history of DJ and nightclub culture Ben draws inspiration from early DJs who pioneered what would become hip hop, disco and house. In the beginning, DJs did not focus on genre but on the over all ability of a song or specific part of song to make people dance.  So in the time honored tradition of the original party rockers, Ben's sets often span many different genres and eras and are always geared towards creating the best crowd response possible.
